A New Sewer! 1857 and Swap

My daughter came for a short visit. She wanted to finish her kimono robe she was making in her sewing class.

It just so happens that Pam from Library Gal Quilts posted this machine for sale on Facebook March 5th and it was priced very reasonably. My daughter has been renting a pfaff machine at the Portland fashion Institute and loves it. After a few texts back and forth we sealed the deal! I figured I'd get it from Pam when she came to the Sisters show in July. But thanks to her and 3 friends, I surprised Rene by having it at the house for her visit!!
This kimono robe is what she brought to finish on my machine. Instead she got to finish it on her machine!! (Early birthday present!) Isn't that robe cute?! Love her fabric choice.

Elsa gave her approval too!

My 1857 blocks are complete for this month.

My poor hearts are a little wonky.
Love this one!

Super cute tools!

If you commented that you wanted to be in the doll quilt swap, but never sent me your MAILING address, then you are not in the swap! I cannot look up everyone's information from last years and don't want to assume your address is the same.

PLEASE, read the post again and follow the rules. With that said, we are having a lot of interest and I'm so excited!

Elsa is at the bottom of her class, but I expect her to excel rapidly! LOL She hasn't been socialized and that is her biggest problem.....she is very vocal about it!!

Have a grand Wednesday!

  1. It is such a special moment when our daughter's ask to use our sewing machines. I'm so happy for you that she is continuing the sewing line in your family, and for her that you gave her an excellent tool for honing her craft. My daughter asks occasionally, when she wants to make a baby quilt for a friend. Her finishes make me feel so proud. Your daughter's robe is lovely. I hope she gets many long years of wear out of it, and much pleasure in her new machine!

  7. The new robe is very cute and I know you are very pleased that she is sewing! I know I'm happy that my older GD is a sewer - now to work on the 7 year old one (if they move here it will be a lot easier).

  15. Having 3 sons and no daughters, I know how thrilled I am that 1 grand-daughter out of 5 loves all things crafty including sewing. I gave her my mother's old Bernina, when she was 10. I love your daughters kimono. You and your daughter are very alike in looks! When you made your block with the large circle and diamonds, did you just applique them all onto your background? I have been putting off doing that one.

  16. Your daughter's kimono is beautiful. I love the fabrics she chose. Lucky her to have a new sewing machine (and a mom attentive to her interests)!

Don't you just love puppy exuberance? Good luck to you and Elsa with her training. Patience, patience.

  21. Your daughter is so pretty....I have 3 grown daughters so I'm a bit partial! And her kimono is very, very nice....from fabric selection to the execution and fit. I really like your 1857 blocks...I'm doing the quiltalong too but haven't done the tool blocks yet....I may skip those even though I love applique---I guess hearts and flowers are more my thing...although your handsaw looks really nice.

  25. I sew on a Bernina but have a Pfaff that I have had for many years and use it as a back up machine. I love the built in walking foot. Nice gift, Mom! The robe turned out very nice. A good choice of fabric design for it. Is she going to make quilts too or just clothing?
